New York City Council to Consider
Banning Carriage Horses
New York City Bill de Blasio continues to push for a ban of the New York City carriage horse industry. On Dec. 8, 2014, the City Council, at the request of Mayor de Blasio, released proposed legislation that would ban all carriage horses from operating in New York City after May 1, 2016. During his campaign, Mayor de Blasio promised to ban the carriage horses his first week in office. In polls conducted over the last year some two thirds of New Yorkers oppose the ban. The New York times recently published an editorial expressing it's opposition to the legislation.
