Benicar
(Olmesartan Medoximil)

What Is Benicar?

Japanese drugmaker Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. developed Benicar (olmesartan medoxomil) to treat high blood pressure.  The FDA) approved Benicar for use in the United States in 2002.  Today, doctors write more than 11 million prescriptions a year for the drug.

What Are The Side Effects of Benicar?

Research has linked Benicar, Azorand and Tribenzor to serious gastrointestinal side effects, including intestinal damage, chronic diarrhea, malnourishment and severe weight loss.  In April 2014, this research led the FDA to require Daiichi Sankyo to put a warning on the label stating that olmesartan medoximil was associated with the above gastrointestinal side effects.
